How good is a GPRS datacard?

Posted by Anish

A GPRS data card. it was always a dream for me. But after getting into my job, the dream became true. I got one for me too. a HUAWEI E620. It not only supports HSDPA packet data service with a maximum transmission rate of 1.8MBPS, but also supports EDGE packet data service with a maximum transmission rate of 236.8kbps. The functions of wireless surfing, SMS, Voice service and Email can be instantly achieved as you wish. Meanwhile, supporting multi-band with HSDPA/WCDMA/EDGE/GPRS/GSM, HUAWEI E620 bridges the communications and enables the share of enjoyment.

Before getting this data card, I was using a Nokia 6680 which provided me with a good experience. It was capable for giving me file download rates of 20kbps and an excellent date rate due to the EDGE facility support. But this is the first time, I am getting a direct experience of a data card in my digital world.

Even thought none of the Indian mobile service providers support 3G, this new model is future-ready. The user interface is also nice, as we need to know only the APN name and the dialing number for the service provider, which can be easily obtained from the customer care.

The dialing is trouble free as the error logs are the details of connection is shown clearly. The screen shot says more. The left colored area represents the current connection data rate. Around 8MB in around 8 mins. awesome rite?? thats an average download of 1MB per minute. On the right side, you can the live transfer rate. The top received rate in 190.6 kbps on a 2G network and the current rate of 172.8kbps!!!

I am using an Airtel Connection and the screen shot is taken in my room at Coimbatore.

Now I am able to enjoy, high speed streaming of youtube videos and online radios..:). Even though the initial investment is high, the later cost is very low. I don’t have any idea about a similar product in India, as I got this from Saudi Arabia.
